Giveaway Loot – Berenice Bejo’s earrings from The Oscars! (well…close).

Posted on

While many of the fashion pundits did not approve of Bérénice Bejo‘s Oscar gown (she’s the gorgeous gal from “The Artist“), she got high marks for her beautiful diamond and emerald dangly drop earrings.

Emitations (I just love this company) has a gorgeous pair of earrings that look like those very earrings and we’re giving away a pair to a lucky reader.  Tell your friends.  *Disclaimer – these were not given to us, but purchased, but we are happy advocates of Emitations jewelry – the quality is undeniable.  And if you have expensive baubles, chances are you can find a copy on their website to wear while traveling – leave your engagement ring home!

To enter, you must a) subscribe to this blog, b) make a comment here on this post, c) make a wish!  It’s that simple. You can Tweet it, Facebook it, Pin it, Tumblr it – whatever you want, if you have a friend who’d look great in these drops.   Here are some photos of Ms. Bejo and a photo of the actual prize!  Contest ends on March 15, 2012.  Good luck!

Hooray for all of you with new hardware. Remember this post?

I’m talking about this one.  The advice still holds true.  Don’t freak out, look at the trends, study the blogs, call a wedding planner.  Recent celebrity engagements include:

(Rumoured)  Halle Berry and Olivier Martinez – she has always sworn off marrying again, but maybe he can change her mind.  I remember when he was with Kylie Minogue all those years, through her bout with breast cancer.  He’s just gorgeous.  Halle definitely has a thing for the beautiful Frenchmen!  (Side note:  all I can think of is “Unfaithful” when I look at him.  Rent it.  Now.)

(Rumoured)  Jessica Biel and Justin Timberlake – well, it’s about time, I suppose.  Remember his geeky denim tuxedo days with Britney?  Oh, Lawd.

Brings us to:  Britney Spears and Jason Trawick.  Anyone who stood by her and saw all the crazy of a few years ago is definitely a keeper.  He seems solid and lovely.  Again, third time’s a charm.

Drew Barrymore and Will Kopelman.  Love that she’s settling down with this dashing art dealer and heir to the Chanel fortune.  The dress will be epic and her 4-carat Graff stunner is a testament to his good taste.

John Legend and Chrissy Teigen – possibly the prettiest couple since Robin Thicke and Paula Patton.  I adore these two together, despite the musician/supermodel cliché.

Matthew McConaughey and Camilla Alves – alright, alright, alright.

Send us a photo of your ring or proposal story to info@dolceparties.com and we’re happy to post it.  Cheers.

Wedding Wednesday. Feast your eyes on the wedding of Harper’s Bazaar’s own Joanna Hillman.

Every once in a while, an extraordinary wedding crosses the blogosphere (that we did not do).  Joanna, Market Editor of Harper’s Bazaar, married Aram Green earlier this month in New York City.  And oh, what a gorgeous, intimate wedding to gaze at.  So much to absorb and love.

Click through the slideshow here and marvel over the vintage Rochas gown right from the big fashion closet at Bazaar, the Fred Leighton jewels, the handwritten invitations by Allyson Bainbridge Riccardi (her email address is right there, ladies!)  the always wonderful Greenwich Hotel, the gorgeous Italian menu courtesy of Locanda Verde, the statement bracelets (which you know we love), the coral peonies from Flowers 298, Ltd., the photos by our friend Michael Rochas of our other friend Christian Oth’s studio, the hair byFrederic Fekkai, the after party at the Smyth Hotel, the after party dress by Dolce and Gabbana but, most of all, the obvious happiness and love shared between Joanna and Aram.

What part of this wedding did you enjoy the most?

Fresh and Beautiful Gifts for Bridesmaids.

Here at F4 (or DP, really), we carefully and lovingly curate and shop for bridesmaids gifts on behalf of our brides, have them wrapped gorgeously and have hand-calligraphed notes prepared for each recipient.  But YOU (as the bride) know your girls, and know how much they are doing for you during your engagement, so it’s incumbent upon you to select meaningful gifts.  As a bridesmaid myself, I’ve received many wonderful and touching gifts – I love love having creative friends.

In general, I frown upon a “one-size fits all” gift – much as I do the dresses for your besties, so my advice is to purchase something meaningful for each – or at least vary the color, the style, etc.  And throw in a copy of the DVD of “Bridesmaids”.  Why the heck not?  It’s such a treat.

In rounding up this list, I realized we would do this each season, but these are some of the things catching our eyes right now.

For the Techie:  The Tory Burch Metallic “Robinson” eTablet Carrying Case.  Now, this comes in black and red as well, but I love the pop of this color – Moss Gold.  Not too disco ball – just the thing.

For the Girl Who Switches Cell Phone Covers as Often as Her Lingerie:  J’adore these cute, monogrammed cases for iPhones (3, 4) by Clairebella.  See all designs here.  Very affordable and oh, so chic.  We cannot decide and may get them all.

For the Gilded Swan:  I am superbly in love with all things gold (works for all coloring), but especially rose gold.  Why not try these elegant rose gold hoops from this wonderful Etsy seller, CrazyDaisyDesigns?  She has other gorgeous jewelry as well.  Rose gold is THE thing.  And much better than forcing your maids to wear matching pearl earring and necklace sets.  Think “what would she wear on a daily basis?”.

For Miss Park Avenue – you simply cannot go wrong with the iconic, affordable, Tiffany & Company change purse in signature robin’s egg (Tiffany) blue patent leather.  This is from the new leather range at T&Co., designed with the help of the fine folks at Lambertson Truex (love).  She can repurpose it for business cards, spare jewelry, credit cards, or her secret Champagne allowance.  It’s also a “something blue”.

Tiffany & Co. leather coinpurse with Kiss Lock.

For the Workaholic or Lounge Lizard:  Who doesn’t need a fabulous new robe?  And no, not ones with a rhinestone “Bridesmaid” emblazoned across the back.  That goes for brides, too, with tracksuits, lingerie, etc.  No “Future Mrs. Tacky”.  Instead, gift your girl or girls with these gorgeous cotton voile robes, lounge dresses and pants/tanks from Plum Pretty Sugar.  I couldn’t choose just one, so click around the site.  Sort of the robe version of my now ten year long obsession with Bedhead Pajamas.  I still have those Ming Green ones with yellow piping.

For the Bohemian Princess:  Serena & Lily is my go-to for my kids’ linens, the Moroccan pouf in my office and some fabric for the chairs in my dining room.  Also great for Moses Basket gifts for expectant pals.  Now, while this bag MAY be a diaper bag at heart, it’s totally cool to use as a real bag and it’s just beautiful. Presenting the Peacock Gypsy Tote.  Just take out the changing pad OR, perhaps don’t.  She’ll be a Mama one day.   I am showing the image with the baby so that you can see the scale/size of the bag.  Would totally fit a laptop or a tablet, too.

For the WASP-chic Palm Beachy Gal:  I could not decide will all of the delight on the Jonathan Adler site.  I’ve professed my love of him before (and DO go to his SoHo flagship store if you get a chance) and he does NOT disappoint here.  I mean, needlepoint?  Ping Pong?  It’s like chocolate and peanut butter, I tell ya.  Buy 2.  Palm Beach girl will adore.  Oh, psst – he’s got tennis racquet covers, too.

There are a few more ideas percolating.  Tell us, what was your favorite bridesmaid gift to give or receive?  Worst?  Tell us here on the site.  Tomorrow?  Guide to Groomsmens’ gifts and of course, #TuesdayShoesday.  We have a winner of the gift card giveaway, so we’ll announce that as well.

Wedding Wednesday Quick Post – Trending: the Statement Bracelet for brides.

Brides come to us for the following reasons:  a) they have no time, b) they are stressed, c) they hold demanding jobs and volunteer work, d) they live out of town, e) they are planning a destination wedding (aren’t they all at this point?).  One common misconception is that said brides need style guidance, but that is simply not true.  Our brides are chic, stylish and most of all, entirely unique.  So, when we hold forth about trends or kick a glaringly tacky one to the curb, it is not a reflection on the part of our clients – ever.

This is a teaser for the larger “What’s In?  What’s Out?” wedding post that is coming soon.  Very often, I’ll see a bride with way too much going on, accessory-wise.  Not my brides.  But if you are planning a wedding and here on this blog, let me just say that tweaking the expected and editing down your look is key.  Tiaras=no.  Unless you are 4 years old.  If you are 35 and wearing a tiara and you are not royalty, it’s just jejeune.  Updo with curlicued tendrils PLUS a statement necklace PLUS too much makeup PLUS giant briolette earrings?  No.  Just. No.

This season, I am hoping brides will wear their hair long and loose, keeping the neckline clean and focus on the arm candy.  That’s right – the Statement Bracelet! All eyes will be on your hands anyway, so give it a little more attention!  So many companies are doing links, cuffs, skins, stones, estate, antique, costume, real, coloured stones, yellow gold, white gold, rose gold (!), Deco, tribal, or old-Hollywood glam that it gives you a great chance to show off the long-overlooked and most lovely wrist.  Generally speaking,  worn on the opposite hand of your engagement and wedding rings.  There are so many wedding possibilities, in all shapes, sizes and budgets, so let’s do an overview, shall we?

J. Crew (bow down to Jenna Lyons) is rife with possibilities.  I love the Deco Bow Bangle.  I also favour the Classic Pave Link Bracelet (and own it!).  So wedding-ready is the Crystal Mosaic Bracelet – it’s got that weight and heft to it.  Pair ANY of these with the Crystal Sunburst Earrings and you have a total look with glossy hair and a great manicure!  These also make insanely great bridesmaids’ gifts.

Moving on to my favourite jewelers – the real stuff, at a good price – are ALL of the bracelets (except the leather ones) from J. L. Rocks!  Check out the page and images here!    Have you seen JewelMint, a carefully curated lookbook of wonderful pieces at $29.99 cofounded by actress Kate Bosworth and stylist Cher Coulter? It’s like ShoeDazzle or The Row for jewelry and it’s quite beautiful.  I have a crush on the Savoy bracelet (above)!

Big spender?  Look no further than this diamond flower bracelet from Ross-Simons, who, by the way, has lovely CZ versions of their important pieces.  I also love love Emitations, an online retailer that cultivates great red carpet looks for less.  Chances are, you can find a faux copy of your engagement and wedding rings to wear while, say, scuba-diving.  Their marketing director, Jenni Beckstrom, is all kinds of awesome, to boot!

Of course, who doesn’t love the Trinity and Love bracelets from  Cartier?  Check them out online!  In yellow gold, rose gold, white gold, with or without diamonds.  True love!
